WHY A MEDICAL OR DENTAL JOURNAL MUST BE PUBLISHED, SOME ONE MAY ASK?

In the rapidly changing world of today, regular exchange of ideas and information through effective national and international liaison is one of the essential pre requisites for maintaining an advanced level of scientific competence in dentistry or medicine.
A book, the moment it is published, becomes old. It provides the basic information on a particular topic and is usually written by one author. The knowledge that a book provides remains static until several years later its new edition is published. On the other hand, a journal is published periodically and various authors write research and review articles or case reports on multiple topics. The reader’s knowledge remains up to date.
We are living in an era of specialization. This is a highly competitive world. In industrially advanced countries, “Publish or Perish” is a common slogan. A journal provides the forum for publication. However, there is sea of difference between talking and writing, between generally narrating an event and putting down the facts on paper. This is a challenging task.
It gives me great pleasure to write the first editorial for the first issue of the “Journal of Khyber College of Dentistry.” For this great effort Prof. Qiam ud Din, Principal/Dean and Academic Council of Khyber College of Dentistry deserves all the praise and my heartiest congratulations.
I pray to Almighty Allah that the “Journal of Khyber College of Dentistry” may flourish and achieve national and international fame in the shortest possible time. (Ameen)
