Abstract

Since its inception in 1962, PM & DC has played a significant role in the regulation of Medical and dental institutions and standardization of medical education in the country. PM & DC is the statutory body, and its primary purpose is to lay down the minimum standard of basic and higher qualifications in Medicine & Dentistry.
Medical education has evolved to become a discipline in its own right in the country. PM & DC has introduced medical education as a separate entity in order to bring the national education at par to the international standards. The regulating body is working hard to implement an integrated curriculum that integrates the basic and clinical science in a vertical direction. PM & DC has been successful in achieving the above-mentioned targets in the medical Colleges up to some extent.
However, in Dentistry PM & DC is far behind to develop an integrated curriculum for dental colleges. In was actually due to the unavailability of qualified Dental professionals who could have moved forward the dental profession in terms of Dental education. In the 21st century, the dental faculty and dental education have been improved in Pakistan, and the professional has realized to bring reforms in dental curriculum.
Now it is the need of the hour that PM & DC should come forward to invite qualified dental professionals to develop Dental curriculum according to the needs of the community. The curriculum should be designed to train the health care leaders who will practice dentistry as the oral health specialty of medicine.
