RESEARCH IS THE DISCOVERY OF TRUTH

Abstract

Education is the social instrument through which we can guide nation’s destiny and shape its future. This is a process through which knowledge is transmitted from one individual or section of society to another individual or section. The knowledge is generated and transmitted to others. Research is the most important tool for advancing knowledge, for promoting progress, and for enabling man to relate more effectively to his environment, to accomplish his purposes, and to resolve his conflicts. All of us are engaged in actions that have some of the characteristics of formal research, but perhaps we do not realize this. We try new approaches, new materials, new ideas, and new plans to achieve our targets. Rsearch is to discover the truth, ie addition of more knowledge to the existing knowledge. Unless it is published, it is of no use and cannot be transmitted to others.

JKCD is the only source in the field of dentistry in this region, which not only encourage researcher and academician but reader as well to share the knowledge. I still remember, in early 2010 when I received a copy of a local journal “PODJ” in hand. Out of 28 published articles, 12 were contributed by faculty of Khyber college of Dentistry Peshawar. I went to the then principal and presented the idea to establish our own journal of KCD. He was of the same view and pleased to accept the idea. With great dedication and team work of faculty of KCD, today we are proud to have a standard indexed journal of the college.

After accepting the new duty, I realized to focus on the areas, which needs attention. The academic was one of greatest concern in institution. To achieve the academic goals research and medical education committees were constituted separately. With the great support of research cell I have been able to conduct two research workshops in KCD. To promote the research culture in institution a series of research activities have been planned in the current academic year. By grace of almighty Allah the timely publication of JKCD and revision of Editorial board are the achievements for which the research cell specially Prof Dr. Shuja Riaz Ansari and Dr Basheer Rehman deserve appreciation. We all are committed to make not only timely publication of JKCD but to upgrade the standard and open the journal for all those, who want to contribute..
